Welcome to Anglican Health Ministries (AHM)

AHM is a Christian community development ministry within the Missionary Diocese of All Saints (MDAS), Anglican Church in North America (ACNA). AHM exists to transform North American urban communities by extending the shalom of God through the Church. AHM seeks the active involvement and participation of all dioceses and parishes within the ACNA.

AHM seeks to minister to the urban poor and sick through evangelism, discipleship, and development ministries that unite both Word and Deed. We advocate a biblically-based, wholistic worldview where every area of life is brought under the authority and dominion of Jesus Christ (Col 1:15-17). We are committed to best-practices in the field of community development, particularly Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). AHM is aligned with the Alliance for Transformational Ministry (ATM) and is built upon principles from the following Christian, wholistic ministries:

AHM is a networked, distributed organization that is driven by those involved in local parish ministry. This website is designed to inform individuals and parishes of AHM events, training opportunities, and provides a collaborative environment for those seeking to start community-development ministries. While our main focus is on ACNA parishes, we welcome participants from other denominations and parachurch organizations to join us.

What is Transformational Ministry?

According to ATM, transformational ministry occurs when “Christian organizations respond to the whole need of individuals and communities. As a result, people become followers of Jesus and whole communities are lifted out of cycles of poverty and disease.” At the root of this definition is an understanding that sin and separation from God have distorted all of our relationships in life. The gospel heals the broken relationship between God and man. Just as importantly, the gospel heals our interpersonal relationships, rectifies injustice in society, and allows us to be faithful stewards of God’s Creation. In short, the shalom of God present at Creation is now in the process of being restored (Rom 8:18-21; Col 1:19-20).
